Togolese leader FaurE GNASSINGBE vowed as the “Minister’s Council President.” This is the highest office in the government’s administration and a new position with no formal period limit.
This is in accordance with the constitutional reform that ends the presidential election and introduced the parliamentary system.
The opposition party said that the change is intended to allow President Singbe to maintain power indefinitely.
His family has ruled this country for 58 years. Faure GNASSINGBé acquired its father GNASSINGBE EYADéma in 2005, which rule for nearly 40 years in 2005.
This latest change is the result of critics and opposition parties classified as “institutional coups” in the new constitution approved by lawmakers last year.
GNASSINGBE’s government paused some changes, following a huge backlash, but moved to his new role.
Togo’s election in July will be the first election under the new constitution. Replaced the presidential system with a parliamentary system.
Theoretically, the role of the Republic of Republic is now the title, but analysts say that the power of GNASSINGBE is more powerful with his new council president.
His party and the Republic of Korea occupied the majority in the election last year and occupied 108 of the 113 seats in the National Assembly.
