Ryder Cup 2025: Wyndham Clark wants to ‘revenge’ in Europe and a place in the Team USA line for New York

Wyndham Clark admits that he has to improve his shape over the coming months if he has the opportunity to represent the Team USA and apply ‘revenge’ team Europe to Ryder Cup this September.

The former US Open champion was part of the side, a team of Europe in Rome, Rome, 26.5-11.5, 2023, which is the seventh consecutive loss for the United States in a two-year competition, and Clark then represented Team USA at the Olympic Games and the Presidential Cup last season.

Clark has been without a win of 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM, and this year he registered only one Top 10 at the PGA Tour, leaving it currently outside the automatic qualifying sites on which he will be on the Keegan Bradley side on Bethpage Black.

“I was fortunate to be part of the team USA for three events, the presidents of the Cup, the Olympic Games and the Ryder Cup – but none of them played on American soil and none of them heard people really cheering for me,” Clark told Podcast Sky Sports Golf.

“There were more boos and things against me, so I really want to have that experience. I really love our captain, Keegan Bradley. He and I are pretty good buds, so I’m just happy for him and I think he’ll do an incredible job.

“I hope I’m one of 12 guys. Obviously, from now on, I probably have to play better golf to make my place, but I hope to succeed.”

Clark was a partner of Patrick Cantlay for Saturday Fourballs in Rome, where a victory in the last hole encouraged the angry scenes at the 18th Green, which continued in the parking lot, before he last sent a single on Sunday.

“I was really charged that I was a 12th guy,” Clark added. “I think that, that could ultimately go down to my match and – if we had the opportunity to come back – that would be.

“I also knew if things didn’t go well, no one watched me, and then it didn’t matter. And it exactly happened. We had four or five holes to play. We had a good match, Bob (Macintyre) and I, and that was. Then it was like:” Well, we fired, we just lost. “

“The only thing I don’t like in Ryder Cup is that there are individual records. I don’t think it should be kept – I think it’s all about winning or not.

“He left me a very sour taste in my mouth, loss, and I want to take revenge. It would really be fun to come home and somehow switch it as they did on us on our home soil.”

More success to come to Clark?

Clark returns to the Wels Fargo Championship, a tournament for which he claimed to be his maiden PGA Tour title, while the PGA championship is held a week later at the Quail Hollow club – a place for his breakthrough of success.

“Quail Hollow is a very challenging, incredibly golf course, and my first PGA tour tour is very dear to my heart,” Clark added. “It’s nice that I get a highway in the place where I had success, so I really hope to get some of these vibrations.

“I feel like my game is moving in the right direction, so I really hope I have my game that week because I know the golf course fits me well.”

Clark followed that win at the Wells Fargo Championship, looking for a maiden main title at the US Open a month later, where he went through the final round with Rory McIlroy to ask for a victory in a goal at the Los Angeles Rural Club.

“I think the victory in quail was more stress of anything, to be honest,” Clark admitted. “Just taking off that weight from your shoulders to finally break through and get my first PGA Tour win, so it’s probably the biggest.

“Then the victory on LACC has just proven that” hey, I can be one of the best players in the world. I know I’m one of the best players in the world, “and then I went out and showed that I did. It’s more than a huge construction of confidence, not pressure relieving.

“Whether you are trying to break through for your first victory, whether you are trying to get your first main or try to do what Rory did and have a grand slam, there is always pressure depending on who you are, which is only at different levels.

“When you finally fulfill it and win and do, it is a huge weight from your shoulders. Only all that hard work and blood, sweat, tears, only merge everything.”
