“If it brings peace to Ukraine, if you really need me to leave my post, I am ready. I can exchange it for NATO (membership),” the journalist said at a press conference in Kiev on Sunday. “If such conditions exist (I will immediately go away).”
Speaking ahead of the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Monday, Zelenskyy also stated that the US President Donald Trump wants to be a close partner of Ukraine, not just a mediator between Kiev and Moscow.
Last week, US and Russia agreed during the first high-level talks in Riyadh to “lay the basis for future cooperation” to end the war and normalize relations.
“I really want it to be more than just mediation (from Trump).. This is not enough,” Zelensky said.
