A source in the Trump administration said the decision stems from the good efforts of the automotive industry to move back to the US, adding that Trump wants to give them a “runway” with its business.
Trade Secretary Howard Lutnik said the president was “building an important partnership” with “home automakers and our great American workers”.
“This transaction is a major victory for the president’s trade policy by rewarding companies producing domestically, while providing the runway and a manufacturers who expressed their commitment to investing in America and expanding their home production,” Lutnit said.

The decrease will prevent automakers who already pay tariffs, and aluminum are also duty, The Wall Street Journal reports. Automers would also be allegedly compensated for tariffs already paid.

The tariffs were decided by the Trump administration in an attempt to increase domestic production, and it is planned to impose a separate 25% tariff for auto parts starting on May 3.
Initially, the spare parts corresponding to the US-Mexico Caven agreement will be released, although the trade department will develop a plan for tariffs for non-US components.
It is expected that the agency will set the process of tariffs for other auto parts by the end of June by the end of June.
