Prague – The attacker attacked and killed two women with a knife on Thursday at the mall in Czech RepublicOfficials said, and the Czech teenager was later arrested for crime.
The motive was not immediately known for the attack in Hradec Kralove, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) east of Prague. Police on X said there was no indication of the “terrorist attack” and that the attacker obviously chose victims randomly.
Victims are not immediately identified. The reports initially said that they were injured, one of them seriously, but the police later confirmed that they both died.
Police detained 16-year-old Czech national about 1 kilometer (less than a mile) from the scene, shortly after the attack. A knife was found nearby.
Prime minister Petr Fial offered condolences to the relatives of the dead. “What happened in Hradec Kralove today is an absolutely incomprehensible and horrible act,” he published on X.
Police said that the situation was under control, there was no danger to the public and that the safety in the city was not reinforced. No other details were available immediately.
