Heavy iron roof in The Real Plaza Trujillo Shopping Mall, a city in the La Libertad region, fell on Friday evening to dozens of people who were on the site.
Defense Minister Walter Astudillo said at the press conference that the information provided by local firefighters in La Libertad, five people died on the spot and sixth hospital after collapse.
Astudillo also said that 30 were injured already fired, and 48 remains hospitalized. Three remained in critical condition. The Minister expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
Luis Roncal, the head of the local fire department, confirmed that “did not find any signs of life” while they were monitored with rescue dogs, but that the search for survivors would continue.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Trujillo, Mario Reyna, announced the closure of the mall “due to immediate risk” and said that his government wanted to inspect other centers.
