Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal agreed to become the General Director of the Men’s Basketball Program on Sacramento State Under the new coach Mike Bibby.
A person familiar with the situation said on Monday that O’Neal would take over a voluntary job for a program his son Shaqir recently joined as a player. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school did not publish.

One of the first accessories made by Bibby was signing Shaqir O’Neal as a transfer from Florida A&M. Now Bibby is an O’Neal father in the program.
O’Neal is the latest high athlete who has taken on the role of general director on the college program. Stephen Curry was recently announced as Assistant Director General in Davidson, and Trae Young plays the same role in Oklahoma.
O’Neal has won four NBA titles, the three NBA finals of the MVP and the League MVP during the 19-year career at the NBA. He is currently an analyst on the TNT show “Inside The NBA”. He also served as a minority owner Sacramento Kings from 2013-22.
Sacramento State this season went 7-25 under the temporary coach Michael Czepil, which was promoted last spring after David Patrick went to work as an associated main coach in Lsu.
The Hornets have passed 28-42 in two seasons under Patrick, and the program has never made the NCAA tournament since they switched to the division and 1991-92. The Hornets received the winning record only twice since then, and in the period of 16-14 and 21-12 in 2014-15.
