New Orleans Saints NFL Insider Jeff Duncan believes QB Derek Carr He desperately wanted to leave the New Orleans Saints franchise before his shocking pension was published.
In Post X on Monday, Duncan described in detail that Carr did not want to be a “transition QB” in New Orleans, something that played a factor in a retirement decision.
“My biggest departure from Derek Carr Imbroglio – this is definitely what it was – that he really no longer wanted to be in #noli – at least not in the role of transitional QB. Your initial leader of the attacker and team cannot be hostage. It is best to negotiate a plan of the way out.”

Carr made a shocking decision to announce retirement from the National Football League on May 10, citing the degenerative shoulder injury he dealt with.
However, if the Duncan report is true, there are more reasons than just a shoulder injury that is conceived in the decision to call him a career. This out of season, New Orleans chose Louisville QB Tyler Shough in the second round, number 40 in 2025. Nfl draftThe move that signaled that Carr’s days of starting for the franchise could have been done.
Derek Carr’s career review
Carr has had a successful NFL career and is likely to be known for his time with the Las Vegas Raiders, not the New Orleans Saints. He originally drew in the second round, number 36, totaling by Raiders on NFL draft 2014, Carr played nine seasons with franchise before spending his last two careers with the Saints.
He is a four -time Pro Bowler, who all came while he was a member of the Raiders organization (2015, 2016, 2017, 2022). Carr ended his career with 41,245 passing meters, 257 transient Touchdown, 112 interceptions, 956 rush meters, seven rush Touchdown and a percentage of 65.1%.
Only time will say if Carr returns to NFL in any forward feature, however, it is obvious that he did not want to play the role of “transitional QB” moving forward for New Orleans Saints.
