Mirra Andreeva became the youngest winner of WTA 1000 with her 7-6 (1) 6-1 victory over Clara Tauson on Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.
In the first WTA 1000 finals for both players, the 12th seed Andrea’s seed took an hour and 46 minutes to finish the hard victory.
Andreeva is only 17 years old and 298 days and has been the youngest ever since the WTA 1000 concept started in 2009, beating Elena Rybakin in the semifinals to book her place.
The victory also moved Andreva to the Top 10 WTA rankings, with the fact that it will rise from 14 to ninth in the rankings.
This will make her the first teenager to enter the Top 10 from Nicole Vaidis back in 2007.
Other teenagers who made 1000 finals from 2020 at this level were Iga Swiatek, who went to win in 2021 in Rome, and Coco Gauff with here 2023.
