Add another title of the regular Big Ten season to the huge list of Toma Izo achievements.
Jase Richardson scored 22 points and Jaxon Kohler Added 15 points and six leaps to lead Michigan State to a memorable 91-84 victory over Iowa on Thursday night.
“It’s just so calm, it doesn’t work,” said Richardson. “I love the way he deals with himself. When we weren’t good early, he kept us in the game. I’m glad he’s on our team.”
With the victory, the Spartans improved at 25-5 and 16-3 in Big Ten Play, giving their fifth conference conference in their fifth career. His first two final four teams, 1999 and the 2000 national title, won direct titles of Big Ten, as well as a team of 2009, which ended up as the winners of the NCAA tournament. The last conference championship came to the end of 2018, when the Spartans led by Miles Bridges fell in Syracuse in the second round of Big Dance.
The Spartans won 11 titles in the regular part of the Big Ten season under Izo (six tied, five direct), while the Hall of Fame coach tied Indiana Bob Knight and Purdue’s “Piggy” Lambert for the most interesting championships in the regular season of Big Ten. Izzo, 70, passed Knight’s Big Ten Wins Record earlier this season in a 79-65 victory over Illinois, February 15th.
Michigan State will close the BIG TEN regular season with a match against the rivals of Michigan State on Sunday at noon at East Lanning. Wolverines (14-5) currently sits two games behind Spartanc at a conference order, losing the games back against Illinois and Maryland.
Spartans are currently projected as seed number 2 in the latest projections of the NCAA tournament Mike Decourcy.
