The new main trainer of the Woman of Scotland Melissa Andreatta plans to immerse yourself in local culture as she begins the task of attempting to return the national team to the big tournament.
The 46-year-old Australian began his new role this week after being appointed heir to Pedro Martinez Los last month.
Andreatta has only ever worked in her homeland, with her latest role as auxiliary chief coach Matildas, but she does not care about moving her family around the world.
“It’s a huge move, it took us 30 hours to get here,” she said, first confronted with the media in Hampden on Tuesday. “I think the trip led me to the main coach and that opportunity appeared and why not jump to it?
“Who wouldn’t want to train this team? Scots have a great history and I’m super honored to be a part of it and run this great team.
“It’s a big decision when you ask a family to move and that’s what we do. We want to immerse ourselves to Scottish culture and really get to know all about it.
“I think I really understand where football is and take it where we want to go, it’s about being here on the ground. It was hard at first, but it was easy when I met people and knew what it was about, and we are now excited to be here now.”
Andreatta, whose first match will be in charge of Austria in the League of Nations on May 30, said that Scotland is a “really alignment” country with its values.
“Fortly, without nonsense, directly, modest, honestly, I’m all about it,” she said. “Some things just appear when they do, and this opportunity is one of them. She got up and continued alone.
“So honored to me that I got the opportunity to lead a team and I’ll take it with both hands and run with him.”
Scotland has not played in a big tournament since Shelley Kerr led them to the 2019 World Cup in France. Spaniard Martinez Los was discharged last December, after being able to arrive at the Scots of this Summer European Championship in Switzerland.
“It’s all about the main qualifications for the tournament and talent paths, exposing our young players to international football,” Andreatta said asking her lecture.
“Being visible, I was at the local league games. I was on the weekend on Hearts V Hibs, so it was fantastic to taste it.
“I am convinced of the process and progress that we can achieve in qualifying for the main tournament. With the players and the experience we have, I think it is over time with this group.”
