Emma Raducan produced inspired performance to upset the American eighth seed Emma Navarro 7-6 (8-6) 2-6 7-6 (7-3) in an epic competition in the second round at Miami Open on Friday.
Raducan, playing on Miami Open ended the trial with coach Vladimir Plantic after only two weeksShe broke through in the initial match against Sayak Ishii on Wednesday, after he left Indian Wells in the first round earlier this month.
On the eve of his match with the American eighth seed Navarro, Raducan was seen hitting Mark Petchey. Former Andy Murray coach was also in her box because of a conflict that went at a distance.
In an interview with Sky Sports’ Laura Robson, Raducan said, “I’m really proud of how I was able to find a third wind – I was absolutely exhausted. Just continued to fight … I literally played every single point like my last, so this is powerful and today was proof of what you can do when you decide.
“In the third set, I used a lot of emotions even though it may not have looked like that. I went through a lot and somehow I told myself that you went too much to let it go. I just fought against each point. I intended to take it like any point.”
She added: “That was number one (in the games ranked this year), because Emma is a top 10 opponents this year. I didn’t beat the top 10 opponents this year. It is my first and she tried so hard to work for every single point. I think the whole match was beautiful, but I had to fight, I had to be aggressive.
Raducan came out by hitting the ball clean against Navarra, who reached the semi-finals of the US Open, and after declining two points in Krmac, she grabbed the opener to continue her revival in shape.
Former British no. 1 could not continue his offensive game plan, and Navarro quickly straightened.
Raducan then took the medical time for the bubbles before the decisive set and after approaching the fall 4-1 down, the 22-year-old found another wind to win in four games in a row, although she could not serve the match.
But Raducan again struck a competition filled with tension in a decisive Tie-break set, which dominated to record his first victory of the Top 10 on the fort.

I do not know what Mark’s obligations are with TV, he is obviously busy. This is something that has worked in the past, and in the short term she could help her this week.”
