The Trump administration sent a letter to Harvard on Friday and was added to the list of requirements designed to fight anti -Semitism on campus, including governance change, employment practices and admissions procedures.
Harvard strongly rejected the request of the letter on Monday.
Harvard Alan Garber said, “The university will not give up independence or give up the constitutional rights.”
He added that the university “did not take lightly” the duty to fight anti -Semitism. But the government said it is reaching too much.
“The administration’s prescription is beyond the federal government’s authority,” he wrote.
Garber said that the government’s request violates Harvard’s first amendment, “over the authority,” and “we threaten our values as private institutions.”
Immediately after the letter was released, the Ministry of Education said that a $ 2.2 billion subsidy and a contract with Harvard amounted to $ 60 million.

The White House said on Friday, Harvard said, “We haven’t responded to the intellectual and civil rights conditions that justify federal investment in recent years.”
This letter included 10 categories of the proposed change that Harvard said in order to maintain a “financial relationship with the federal government.”
Some of the changes are: Thank you for reporting students to the federal government, which is “hostile” to the US value, and hiring the parties approved by the external government for “harassing most fuel anti -Semitism.”

He accused major universities that they could not protect Jewish students and had institutional left -wing prejudice.
In March, the administration said that Harvard’s federal contracts and subsidies were considering $ 226 million (£ 190 million) and $ 8.7 billion for many years of subsidies.
Harvard professors filed a lawsuit against the government illegally attacking the freedom and academic freedom of the media.
The White House previously accused $ 400 million in the Federal Fund at Columbia University, fighting anti -Semitism and not protecting Jewish students on campus.
