US government workers received an e -mail on Saturday afternoon asking them to include their achievements from last week or resign – the latest development in the Trump administration’s efforts targeting the federal workforce.
The email came after billionaire Trump, who is close to Elon Musk, tweet that the employees “will soon receive an email asking to understand what they did last week.”
“The failure in the response will be considered a resignation,” he wrote.
Musk leads an external effort to strongly reduce government spending through financing discounts and releases.
Email arrived at the incoming mailboxes shortly after Trump’s speaking at the Conservative Political Labor Conference (CPAC). The messages came with the topic line, “What did you do last week?” From a transmitter listed in human resources.
In a copy of the BBC e -mail, the employees were asked to explain their achievements from last week at five bullet points – without revealing secret information – before midnight on Monday.
The message did not mention whether the failure in the response would be a resignation.
The Personnel Management Office, the Federal Human Resources Agency, confirmed that emails were authentic in a statement of CBS, the American news partner.
“As part of the Trump administration’s commitment to the existence of an effective and accountable federal workforce, OPM requires employees to provide a summary summary of what they did last week by the end of Monday, when its managers determine. The agencies will determine the following steps.”
The American Federation of Government Employees, the largest union representing federal employees, criticized the message as “harsh and unauthorized” and pledged to challenge, that is, “illegal end” for federal employees.
“Once again, Elon Musk and Trump’s administration showed their complete contempt for federal employees and critical services they provided to the American people,” Evere Kelly, President of the Federation, said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, Trump described the cuts and told CPAC that federal employees were not enough because some of them were working at least some time.
“We remove all unnecessary, non -efficiency and corrupt bureaucrats from the federal workforce,” the president said at the annual conference in the Washington suburb on Saturday afternoon.
“We want to make the government smaller and more efficient,” he added. “We want to keep the best people, and we will not keep the worst people.”
The Ministry of Governmental efficiency (DOGE) is not an official government ministry, but the Musk team has made widespread changes to the American federal infrastructure, with the approval of the White House.
Thousands of government employees have been launched in the service of internal revenue (IRS), the Pentagon and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as other agencies, in recent weeks.
The email reflects Musk processing for employees after obtaining the social media platform on Twitter in 2022. Since the employees there shrinkled under its ownership, it has issued an alert that included a famous request now for the commitment to “submit militants” at work or resign.
Trump has repeatedly applauded Trump to cut the musk government.
In a social publication, Trump said that Musk is “a great job” to reduce the size of the federal government and that he wants to see it “becomes more aggressive” in the stalking.
