Mourners visit Pope Francis lying in state at St Peter’s Basilica

The mourners respect the Pope Francis, who was transferred from the Vatican residence to St. Peter’s Cathedral before Saturday’s funeral.

The Pope’s open coffin was a solemn procession at Saint Peter Square on Wednesday morning, the Vatican media said.

As the coffin crossed the square, the bell rang and the crowd applauded -the traditional Italian respect.

The Pope died at the age of 88 after a battle between 88 years of stroke and double pneumonia, and spent five weeks at the hospital earlier this year. As the first Latin American leader of the Catholic Church, he has played his role for 12 years.

On Wednesday, the Red Rob Cardinals and the White Priests walked the Pope’s coffin to St. Peter’s Cathedral at the personal residence of the Casa Santa Marta Guesghouse. The procession lasted less than 40 minutes.

The Swiss guards, responsible for the safety of the pope, led his coffins to the altar of the church.

His body will be in church until Friday evening. Public viewing began at 11 o’clock on Wednesday (10:00 bst).

Shortly after the event began, the queue was already eight hours long, reported to the Italian media. By the middle of the afternoon, tens of thousands of people were surrounding the square.

The Vatican said on Wednesday afternoon that the number of people who want to commit response will extend the opening time of the church after midnight.

The church was scheduled to be closed on Wednesday and Thursday at 19:00 on Wednesday and Thursday before the coffin was sealed.
