Willie Mullins believed that Galopin Des Champs never jumped enough to allow him to win the third Golden Cup of Boodles in Cheltenham.
On the day when the champion coach won the first four races on the card, the one who looked at his head and shoulders above the rest failed in his attempt to join the very selected club of hero of Triple Gold Cup.
Paul Townend was never where he wanted to be in the race until he reached the fifth leader descending down the hill, but turning into straight, he looked like he could really record historical success.
However, the monitoring was fully stroke, the InothewayUarthin Gavin Cromwell, supplemented for the race last week, which was 8-13 to win six in length.
“I just thought he was never satisfied until he reached the fourth time,” Mullins said, who finished the week equalized his own record of 10 winners.
“During the race he was too far from his ground and did not jump enough to be in the race, so he was embarrassed.
“I just felt she wasn’t jumping, maybe drying wouldn’t be help.
“I didn’t think, when Ahoy Senor fell, he influenced him too much, I felt that he had missed it all and I was hoping that it might wake him because I thought he was strenuous.
“He jumped too big, he just didn’t jump enough, so I hoped something would be killed beside him to wake him up, but he didn’t race.
“The only time he looked competitive was the fourth most interesting at the top of the hill, and then he looked fine, but he used too much that his dust jumps too big – but a good horse beat.”
Townend, who was also briefly attempted by Al Boum Photo to win three golden cups, agreed that he was never happy in full.
“He tried his heart and he’s home at home. He’ll go again,” Townend said.
“He was simply not satisfied, everything was a little effort. He still cracked him and gave them something to shout.
“A few jumps back to the top of the hill, I was hoping, instead of feeling sure that he would come to life there to be honest. He ran a moment.”
