Lando Norris is at the top of the first training session of the Formula 1 2025 season at the Australian Grand Prix while British Novajlija Oliver Bearman suffered a large collision.
Norris played his own and McLaren’s status of pre-season favorites on Thursday, but a part of the appearance that many expect that the British will give a good opportunity to ask for their maiden F1 title.
He set the time 1: 17,252S for the champions of the ruling constructions at the final moments of the session to end 0.149s away from Carlos Sainz, who impressed Williams after his Ferrari shift.
Lewis Hamilton was only 12. On his first weekend for Ferrari races, ending six -tenths behind his teammate Charles Leclerca, who was third.
The sevenfold world champion, whose first training performance for Ferrari was the center of attention after his transition from Mercedes, said through Team Radio to “fight” to turn the SF-25.
Oscar Piastra had four dozen of his teammate in McLaren Norris in fourth place, while Max Verstappen was slightly in fifth place for Red Bull, as he started searching for the fifth consecutive driver’s title.
Alex Albon supported Sainz’s speed, taking sixth place for Williams, while George Russell finished seventh in Mercedes, survived late intimidation while spinning after driving on the grass on the way 4 and managed to stop the car only a few barriers.
Bearman, who rides in his first full campaign after making three appearances in the race last season, caused the second of the two red flag during the session as he ran into gravel at the exit 10 of the 10.
Sky Sports F1 Martin Brundle said, “He just missed the top, running wide. I don’t think he recognized it early enough, he was probably too much too gung-ho and he thought he would save it.
“It was a little excessively confident and would knock part of that confidence.”
This interruption, together with a earlier delay to allow the removal of gravel from the path on which cars running from the line in the 6th thread, meant that almost a third of the hourly was lost.
Liam Lawson, who started his first full campaign with Verstappen in Red Bull, had previously introduced himself in the 11 race for junior racing bulls in the last two years, survived early intimidation after kissing the wall at the end of 9, before he eventually finished in 16th place.
Isack Hadjar finished a maximum of six recruits, taking the ninth place for racing bulls. Alpine Jack Doohan, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto were 13, 14 and 15, respectively.
