Outside Concorde: The desire of one person to return the supersonic journey becomes reality

When in 2003, British Airways left the concorde fleet, few people imagined that it would be the death of supersonic passengers in the foreseeable future. However, one person refused to accept it and sought to make his dream a reality since 2014, when he founded the American manufacturer of supersonic aircraft.

The vision of Blake Wambbgs will restore supersonic journeys and make it both commercially viable and luxurious, many were considered a pie in the sky. However, his critics ate their words when in January 2025 the Boom demonstration plane became supersonic to prove its concept.

Blake Shol, CEO Boom

Blake was always interested in aviation and earned his private pilot’s license in 2008. However, his early career began as a software engineer from Amazon, after all, selling a small Groupon company, and behind it a few Groupon. He was inspired to start the boom after he saw Concorde at the museum and wondered why the aviation took such a step back, without the candidates for the replacement of the sign aircraft. General wisdom said that supersonic trips were no longer financially viable, but Blake refused to accept that modern technologies could not be applied to overcome problems.

Blake decided to teach himself, and “bought every textbook I could find, I was calculating the calculation and physics, as well as the aviation design class. I started building a plane and market spreadsheet.” It made it believe that you could develop an existing Boeing 787 technology.

Using a carbon composite frame and making it long and thin, you will need to put twice as many engines. The aircraft should then be twice as faster and reduce the cost of the supersonic over three quarters, which has become the main problem with Concorde.

I am sure he found the way forward, in 2014 he founded the boom.

Blake’s vision includes widespread pricing in accordance with existing business tariffs rather than Concorde, which was valued at the first class level “for royal and royalties”, outside the reach of most people.

He expects the price of New York in London will be about $ 3,500 per ticket to break through, which gives the expected fare of about $ 5,000. There are also plans for the future models of their plane, the vertery to reduce the costs even lower and be within reach of the usual traveler.

It is also focused on ensuring that the built -in experience is as comfortable as possible compared to the Concorde places that were more like something with an inexpensive airline. Most of the manufacturers of the outsourcing are their seat place, but Boom seeks to keep this house and have a small team that works on projects.

Due to shorter flights, it is not planned to include flat plates, storage of the cost and weight of the aircraft. With 64 places there is a special place for each seat, so you do not need to worry about landing late and not find a place.

So far, Blake keeps tabs tightly in accurate projects, but promises something unexpected for WoW customers. Passengers will also enjoy the view of the ground from the edge of the space, as the boom will cruise and climb as concorde up to a height of about 60,000 feet.

The vertera will still be intense fuel, like concorde, is required twice as much as fuel of ordinary planes, but it simply enhances the boom to make aviation more stable. Most modern aircraft can only use about 50% sustainable aviation (SAF), whereas the seter will be built for a 100% SAF.

Currently, SAF is too expensive and too insufficient to be viable for mass nutrition. However, Blake believes that boom can help increase SAF supply as they can support additional costs due to the fact that passengers are willing to pay a supersonic flight premium.

Blake collided with numerous failures along the way, for example, to find out that the necessary air frame was overweight in 2000 pounds when they were already halfway. Each time, under his leadership, the boom team continued to go until the decision was found. All the trials and hardships finally felt worthy when the boom first became supersonic. Blake says, “I watched live, and we watched as Maha’s number was approaching one that was one of the greatest moments in my life.” Not satisfied with the achievement of what many people believed that it was impossible to return a commercial supersonic flight, Blake is even more ambitious and plans to train to flight by supersonic aircraft.

Part of the commercial vitality of the boom comes down to its “boundless” technology. While Concorde created a supersonic boom that restricted its supersonic journey to overcome the water, Boom found a solution.

Six times they recently broke the sound barrier, the demonstrator did not create a single supersonic boom. Autopille Verrets will constantly optimize the speed for the endless cruise based on atmospheric conditions. Cruise without speed is possible with a speed of up to 1.3, at a typical speed between 1.1 and 1.2. After the water where the sound boom is not a problem, the Mach 1.7 speed will be reached.

With the unfortunate cruise speed of 40-50% faster than ordinary airliners, which means a flight from New York to Los Angeles can be up to 90 minutes shorter. Over the time of the flight about 4 hours and the time difference, you can only arrive an hour after local time. The longest aircraft can fly continuously about 4,250 nm, which is equivalent to about nine hours of flight at the usual speed. However, longer flights, such as Australia, would be possible with the stop of the gas station, similar to how the airlines work today. It is hoped that the future generation of the aircraft will have an even larger range.

The boom is working on a fairly short time for delivering aircraft that Blake is believed to have passengers who pay travel over the next five years and 2029-expected launch date. Production on the first plane will begin in about 18 months with the first test flight, which is expected in 2028.

The aircraft manufacturer already has 130 orders and previous orders from multiple airlines, including American Airlines, United Airlines and Japan. Interestingly, the original CONCORDE, Air France and British Airways have not yet expressed interest. However, Blake is sure that after the concept is proven by solid orders, most large airlines will have to offer supersonic trips to compete.

While the concept of supersonic aircraft may seem extremely expensive, Blake believes in keeping the team size small for the efficiency of working together and storing the low cost. From this method of work, he believes that the company will break through even by 2030, which is impressive so quickly after the commercial launch of the plane.

Recent supersonic flights not only proved to Blake’s critics wrong, but also ended with many years of hard work to make it a long time to fly. The unfolded vision and the desire of Black Wambbg do everything else, can cause the boom to be as revolutionary for aircraft as Apple was for mobile phones.
