The United States imposed visa restrictions on current and former Thai officials who participated in the forced repatriation of Uighur Muslims as part of a new support policy undergoing torture in China.

The policy will be focused on foreign officials who complain in efforts to forcibly return ethnic or religious minorities at risk China.

“We strive to fight the efforts of China by pressure of governments to forcibly return Uighur and other groups to China, where they are tortured and violent disappearance,” said Mark Rubio, Secretary of State.

“In the light of ancient Chinese acts of genocide and crimes against humanity committed against Uighurs, we urge governments around the world not forced to return Uighur and other groups to China.”

Rubio said the action against the unnamed current and former Thailand officials was the response to their participation in the 40 Uighurs return to China in late February. Thai This is a defense ally of the United States, but the country is nervous about China’s confrontation, which is much more important for the Southeast Asia nation in terms of trade.

The State Department did not determine what visa restrictions are, but such measures usually refuse visas to enter the United States. Rubio said measures could be applied to family members of any officials who recognize repatriation.

Uighuri is a Turkic ethnic minority from the North Western Chinese region Xinjiang. In 2022, the UN Human Rights Commissioner was accused of Beijing of “serious human rights violations” as he treated Ugur and other Muslim ethnic minorities in Xinjiang.

China has forced more than 1 million Uighurs in the Xinjiang detention camp over time, causing criticism of many countries. Beijing repeatedly denied the pursuit of Uighur.

A politics is an early indication of how President Donald Trump reacts human rights Violations involving China. At the end of his first term, then Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Beijing of performing a genocide. His successor to Joe Biden Administration, Antoni BlinkenLater repeated the charge.

Rubio was one of China’s loudest critics and his recording of human rights when he worked in the US Senate, together with Mike Waltz, a former army green beret and Congressman Florida, who is now a national security advisor.

Many experts in China believe that Trump wants to reach some wide deal with Beijing, which provides trading and other issues. The only thing they are watching is how the president and his officials tell about the alleged human rights violations in China, given the possible consequences for any broader negotiations with President Xi Jinping.
