The International Women’s Day was held for the first time in March 1911, when more than a million people achieved the event in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. At that time, women were not allowed to vote, and in many countries higher education was not open to women, and divorce was not legal. A huge amount has changed since then, of course. Political leaders of two of the three best institutions of the European Union today are women, for example. But violence against women and gaps in wages between men and women are still ongoing, for example, but not limited to, the European Union is still trying to address it. We explore the case of women’s rights in Europe on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025 – after 114 years of the original teacher.
