Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk indicated that there was a “progress” in conversations about the long -awaited new agreement to keep him at Anfield.
The 33-year-old, like teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is out of the contract this summer, but revealed that his future could be close.
Asked after Sunday’s 3-2 Premier League defeat in Fulham if there was progress in discussions, Van Dijk told reporters: “There is progress, yes.”
Included to what this meant, the Netherlands International added: “Listen, these are internal discussions and we will see.
“I love the club, I love fans and they were again for us (in Fulham). We wanted to reward them, but I ask them to be there on Sunday and make the stadium a incredible place as always for us.”
The refugees of the leaders face West Ham on Anfield on Sunday, sitting 11 points from runner -up arsenal, and knowing that the second title in six seasons could only be a few weeks away.
However, the future of an influential trio Van Dijka, Salah and Alexandra-Arnold has become the main conversation in recent weeks, guessing that the talent farmed in Alexander-Arnold’s house could go to Real Madrid, which caused a furious reaction from the club support section.
Van Dijka comments are likely to be better received, although it insists that it concentrates only on the task of winning the league.
He said, “This is definitely a mentality in our group, that the job has not been done, and now we just have to recover from it physically and mentally and put our minds on West Ham at home.”
