“I would like it if they raise prices because people will start buying American cars,” Trump NBC News said. “I hope they raise prices because when they do it, people will buy American cars. We have a lot.”
The president also said he did not warn the car companies from raising the cost of tariffs – pushing for reports that he had threatened as a way to control the price of cars.

Trump said he would only consider negotiations with the countries to reduce tariffs, “when people are willing to give us something of great importance.”
