President Donald Trump will sign an executive order to reinstate expelled service members from the military who refused coronavirus vaccines, according to the White House.
“The Executive Order directs the Secretary of Defense to reinstate all members of the military (active and reserve) discharged for refusing the COVID vaccine who request reinstatement,” according to a White House fact sheet.
Those reinstated will be reinstated and given back pay and benefits, according to the fact sheet.

“From 2021 to 2023, the Biden administration and former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discharged more than 8,000 soldiers solely due to their coronavirus vaccination status,” the fact sheet notes. “After the vaccine mandate was rescinded in 2023, only 43 of the more than 8,000 troops who were separated have chosen to return to duty under the Biden administration and Secretary Austin.”
Service members who rejected coronavirus ‘JAB’ would get their jobs back and back pay too under new GOP bill
Trump had pledged during his inauguration speech to take this step, although he indicated that he would do so last week.
“This week I will reinstate any service members who were wrongfully removed from our military for objecting to the COVID vaccine mandate, with full pay,” the president said during his January 20 remarks.
