Trump administration needs more planes to carry out deportations: report

The Trump administration began promised deportations of illegal immigrants this week, but White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said Friday that more planes are needed to speed up the process.

Miller told reporters that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Its ability to deport illegal immigrants has been hampered by a shortage of aircraft, and the administration is trying to secure enough planes from six sources, according to Bloomberg.

The ICE raids took place early Tuesday, and White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt released photos of people boarding C-17 planes on Friday morning, declaring that “Deportation flights have begun”. One of the photos was taken at Biggs Army Airfield at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, US, and was one of two flights that departed for Guatemala on Thursday at 5pm local time.

Mexico denies land access to US deportation flight after miscommunication, State Department. says the official

Customs and Border Protection sources told Fox News that the plane in the photo was carrying 80 people. A third flight bound for Mexico never took off after Mexico refused to approve the landing, a State Department official told Fox News.

But Miller indicated Friday that the administration is looking to expand operations and is looking into acquiring aircraft from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) to do so.

“Obviously you have DHS air assets, you have DOD air assets, you have State Department air assets, you have commercial air assets, you have charter air assets, so all assets that could be used to conduct a lawful deportation,” Miller said. Per Bloomberg.

“In one week, the Trump administration has already facilitated a record number of deportation flights for illegal immigrants, and the administration is using military and non-military aircraft to accomplish this mission,” Leavitt said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Meanwhile, Miller also said the administration will use various tools to remove those granted humanitarian parole to enter the country when they do not have permission to do so.

“There are digital implications, there are financial implications, there is routine law enforcement intelligence,” he said. “There is a wide range of tools we have to identify and remove these individuals.”
