Charlie Woods failed to get out of local qualifications for Open usfor the second year in a row, the son Tiger Woods missed.
The 16-year-old forest was among the record 10,202 entries for the US Open. He improved from last year’s results in local qualifications for 18 holes, publishing 3-Preko 75 at the Wellington Golf Club on Thursday. This left him seven strokes, except that he was among those who progressed to the final stage of 36 holes. A year ago, he shot 81 at a local qualification for the US Open.
Tiger Woods, who has three now, among his 15 professional majorettes, never had to go through the first phase of local qualifications. According to USGA, Woods was exempt from local qualifications in 1992 to 1994, probably from his US junior amateur titles.
Woods failed to go through the final phase of qualifying in 1992 and 1993 when he was still in high school. He played his first US Open in 1995.
The US Open is from June 12 to June 15 in Oakmont. Tiger Woods is not playing this year while recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
