Rory McIlroy ended his long wait on the fifth main title and finished Grand Slam in his career with a dramatic play-off win over Justin Rose on Masters.
McIlroy recovered from a loss of advantage with two-hole with a double hole in the open hole to initially take control in Augusta National, only to blow a four-shot lead over his closing six holes.
World no. 2 slipped the last one that he had closed one of 73 and returned to 11, with Rose, who canceled a seven-stroke deficit and published an amazing final round 66 to force play-off.
The players returned to 18th place to play-off, where McIlroy changed his mistake in the 72nd hole, falling astonishing approach within three meters from the needle and making a bird needed to win life.
McIlroy’s fifth title is his first of the 2014 PGA championship and makes him only sixth Golfer in history to end the Grand Slam career, joined by Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
As McIlroy made history in the Masters thriller
McIlroy saw his two-goal lead disappearing during a dramatic opening holes, where he had to get out of a Fairway bunker and three shots with a 20-foot shot to open with a double shot six, as Bryson Dechabbeau got up and dropped only from the green to save the couple.
Dechabbeau succeeded when he made a bird with twice in a par-five second, where McIlroy made a couple after he had to lay from a bunker of the fruit road, only to react the northern Irish brilliantly at the next two holes.
McIlroy walked from seven meters in the third and turned 10 feet into the fourth three, which gave him a triple pillow when Dechambeau three broke both holes, although he failed to extend the lead in the seventh, despite the amazing recovery over the trees.
Birds with a return shot around the turn shifted McIlroy four forward, despite putting it in the par-four 11th, only to retreat back to the chase, hitting the wedge into the water and gathering a double beetle in Petica 13.
McIlroy also ran in the Rose Aens move at once, accusing the water plate, publishing three consecutive birds at the 11th and canceled the stain at the age of 14 with gains back in the next two holes.
Another god in 14. from McIlroy briefly gave Rose a solo advantage, and the Englishman responded to the 17th place by making a bird of eight meters – his 10th day and setting the target of the club houses.
McIlroy produced an incredible shot in 15th place to place a two -stroke bird and add another in 17. To take the lead with a single shot at 72 hole, where he found Bunker Greenside from the middle of the fruit and missed five feet to win.
Any possibility of the second big almost missing was eradicated with the moment of gloss on the first playoff hole, where McIlroy’s approach left a bird close to win and saw him crashed to the floor in tears of joy.
The 2018 champion Patrick Reed claimed third place in front of the champion of Scottie Scheffler champion, while Dechabbeau finished his heel with Sungjae im. Ludvig åberg – who briefly shared the lead – he took the seventh after dropping four hits in the last two holes.
