A diplomatic victory over Colombia crowned a crowded week for the US State Department during the era of new Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, who supervised an agency that made border security and migration at a highly priority – and gathered a set of measures within a week.

After Colombian President Gustavo Petro refused to take us to take advantage of the Colombian citizens on Sunday, Rubio announced the immediate comment of issuing visas in the country, as well as travel sanctions on government officials.

Within hours, Colombia retreated and agreed to what the White House said are the conditions that President Donald Trump provided. However, the administration said the visa penalties will remain valid until the deportation is received.

The diplomatic clash was a strong end of what a week focused on immigration not only for administration as a whole, but also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agency participated in multiple instructions and movements in issuing visa, immigration and financing for foreign organizations.

On the first day of Rubio in his post, the administration issued instructions to consular officers to put national security first when reviewing visas and ordering the administration to implement an examination of enhancing visa requests from countries that there are concerns about increasing the risk of national security.

“First, we must achieve collective migration and secure our borders. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not undertake any activities that facilitate or encourage mass migration,” said Rubio. “Our diplomatic relations with other countries, especially in the Western hemisphere, will give priority to securing the borders of America, stopping illegal and disturbing immigration, and negotiating the return of illegal immigrants.”

The official said that since then, the administration has worked with other agencies on border security and implementing the consuming citizenship order, including work to cancel a green card for a Moroccan terrorist.
