Tommy Fleetwood is five shots from the Valero Texas Open leadership, where Ryder himself increased the lead on the first day.
Fleetwood is sixth with five more players after hitting five birds and one god on the way to a four -legged ticket 68.
Ryder was bird of six of his last seven holes in 63 without a destroyer, while he skipped Keith Mitchell on top of the leading board in the last tournament before the Masters.

“I realized that anything under couple was always pretty well here. I didn’t go in with the intention of trying to be more aggressive or anything like that, I just tried to put one leg in front of the next and have a solid round, hit Fairways and as much greenery as possible.”
Mitchell was also without any eagle, with an eagle on the eighth PAR-5, the highlight of his eight-and-64-up-to-date opening of 65 years or under PGA this year.
Open champion Brian Harman sat in third place after 66, and Carson Young and Jordan Spieth were tied to the fourth in 5 to 67.
Spieth, a native of Texas, won this event in 2021 and seeks his first win on the tour for almost three years.
