Former Masters Tom Watson champion is not convinced that he will gather PGA Tour and players LIV Golf League -ai reunification of the men’s game will be possible.
The male professional game has been broken from the introduction of LIV Golf, supported by the Public Investment Fund in Saudi Arabia (PIF), and players with PGA Tour and DP World have joined the circle since its launch in 2022.
The Framework Agreement on the Recruitment of the excursion was signed in June 2023, but one has yet to be finalized, leaving the LIV golf player unacceptable to go to PGA Tour and limit the world’s best players who go to the head outside the Major.
Commissioner PGA Tour Jay Monahan said last month that President Donald Trump’s participation in discussions made the possibility of reuniting “very real”, although Watson is not so optimistic when he discusses the topic on Masters.
“I don’t see a real working mechanism that two tours can be returned,” Watson said at his press conference, after his role as an honorary starter at Augusta National. “I think that’s one of the reasons you haven’t seen the agreement since June two years ago.
“The only thing I know is that Scottie Scheffler said in his speech last night on Tuesday night,” I’m glad we’re all together again. “So, players would like to gather.
“It’s really up to the power to see if there is a box where two tours can work. I don’t see that frame happen.
“Maybe they are smarter people than me, but the key element of PGA tour, and the only thing that is required of you is to get a permit to play in a competitive tournament, a conflicted rule of events.
“It is here to protect the sponsors of our PGA tour, so the fields are not exhausted from all good players as they leave and play other tournaments. I do not see that two tours can gather.”
Any change in the immediate?
The launch of Liv Golf saw that the PGA Tour had changed its schedule and business model, with more signed events and record prize handbags, and champion Grand Slam Jack Nicklaus believes that Switch was a success.
“Liv pushed a tour, doing some things that were a little premature for a tour,” Nicklaus said. “But Pga Tour goes fine.
“They changed their structure. The players now have a part of what is happening. Their connection plan to their raised events and their plan to connect young players in other tournaments was very successful. We make new play stars.
Would I love to see them all connecting? Of course, I think we would all be. But I think PGA Tour is a tour and there are most of your good players and I think it’s very healthy no matter what the time it goes, but obviously we all want to see everything together. ”
There are 12 players on the field LIV Golf League for Masters, including seven former champions, although the president of the tournament Fred Ridley confirmed that he did not plan to introduce an additional category for those competing in Saudi supported.
“We have historically considered special cases for invitations for international players, so Joaquin Niemann has been invited in recent years,” Ridley explained.
“We feel that we can deal with this problem, whether it is a LIV player or player on another tour that could not otherwise be acceptable to call, that we can file it with a special call.”
