West Indies recorded their first Test win in Pakistan since 1990 and leveled the series after a five-for-120-run win by Jomel Warrican on the third day of the second Test in Multan.
Resuming 76-4 and chasing 178 runs for victory, Pakistan lost both their overs overnight without adding to the total, with Kevin Sinclair (3-61) catching Saud Shakeel in slips on the third ball of the morning and a clean sweep of the night by Warikane. Kashif Ali (1) in the following.
Mohammad Rizwan (25) and Salman Ali Agha (15) added 39 runs before both fell to Warrican’s left-arm spin (5-27).
Salman, who had earlier survived a close chance from Warrican, was trapped at LBW, before Rizwan was bowled by a delivery which he returned and left Pakistan on 122-8.
Gudakesh Moti (2-35) dismissed Nauman Ali (6) before Warrican cleared the tail end by his clean bowling partner Sajid Khan (7).
It was a remarkable turnaround for the West Indies who had lost the first Test by 127 runs at the same venue and were 38-7 on the first day of the second Test after Nauman’s historic hat-trick.
However, the West Indies’ lower order took them to 163 all out to take a slender first innings lead of nine runs.
A half-century by captain Kraigg Brathwaite (52) in the second innings led West Indies to score 244 runs for a total lead of 253 runs, before the Pakistan batsmen fell into their own trap of spinning the pitch against the tourists’ spinners.
Pakistan’s defeat pushed them to the bottom of the World Test Championship table as both teams ended their two-year campaign.
