NFL officiating has been a talking point in the midst of the biggest game of the year between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills on Sunday night in the AFC Championship Game.

The Bills were stuck on fourth-and-1 with about 13 minutes left in the game. Josh Allen ran sneaky to the quarterback to try to get yardage on downs. At first glance, it looked like his teammates’ push wasn’t working to get a new set of touchdowns.

The game was stopped while officials reviewed the play. The CBS broadcast appears to show the two side umpires initially disagreeing on the point of the ball. One official spotted the ball closer to the mark than the other.

Replays appear to show that Allen may have gotten the ball across the line when he dropped back toward the Chiefs’ defensive linemen. However, officials ruled that Allen did not reach the ball to the mark, and Buffalo turned the ball over.

NFL fans watching the game strongly criticized Ball’s point and voiced it in equal measure during the game.

The Chiefs scored on the next drive. Buffalo tied the game on the next possession. However, it was Harrison Butker’s field goal and a Chiefs defensive stop that put an end to the game.

Kansas City won 32-29.

Allen’s stop wasn’t the only questionable call of the game. Xavier Worthy’s huge play in the second quarter was ruled a catch even though the ball was in contact with the ground.
