Before the match on Saturday night against Colorado Rockies in Petco Park, San Diego Padres Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill were presented to their Silogger silver awards for 2024.
On Sunday, the Padres channel of social media added to Machad’s shots and photoshoot of other teammates with their hardware.
“Proud to celebrate our silver Sluggers 2024 👏,” he read the post.
Machado’s sister, Yasmine, posted them again on her social media as she shone proudly for her brother’s achievement.
“So proud,” she wrote.
In the process of earning his second Silver Slugger awards, he presented .263/.325/.472 with 29 running in the home, 105 RBI and 163 goals 2024. He also won the Silver Slugger Award in 2020, when he threw .278/.347/.489.
It was the first Silver Slugger Jackson Merrill Award, which came to his rookie season. Last year, Merrill inserted .292/.326/.500 together with 24 runs in the house and 90 RBI. He became the first novelty in the history of Padres to be selected for the All-Star game, and finished second in Paul Skenes in the NL Rookie of the Year race.
Manny Machado especially asked to hit a coach to hand him the award
Padres hit coach Victor Rodriguez and his staff were asked by Manny Machado for his teammates to hand him the Silver Slugger Award.
“I like that our strongholds will hand over awards. These are guys who give their blood, sweat and tears and take zero loans,” said Padres manager Mike Shildt. “They do their job and do them very well. It’s nice that they are part of that ceremony with Manny and Jackson. Manny was the first class.”
Shildt also talked about both Jackson Merrill and Machado deserved honor.
“Silver Slugger is a fantastic honor,” Shildt added. “Whenever you get some of your peers, it basically means more than anything. With right, these guys were recognized. Jackson, obviously had a great year. Manny did what Manny does.”
Thanks to much of Merrill and Machadou, Padres hold the best record in the majorettes (13-3). They are willing to deal with Chicago Cubs on Monday.
