Mansfield striker Lucas Akins was closed to 14 months because he caused the death of a cyclist he hit while pulling out of the junction.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Adrian Daniel, 33, died 10 days after Akins hit him, who drove his seven-year-old daughter to a piano lesson in Mercedes G-Vagon, in Huddersfield, March 2022.

Daniel was driving a series of Huddersfield Road, in West Yorksshire, on his way home from work when Grenada International Akins, 36, pulled his way out of the Crossland Factory Lane Factory.

Prosecutors said that Sky Bet League One player failed to stop at the sign of the giving, who was challenged by the defendant, saying to police officers not to see Daniel approaching.

On Thursday, Judge Alex Menari said he was thinking about the suspension of the prison candidate, but that he had decided that he was only a immediate sentence of 14 months.

Akins, from Holmfirtha, admitted that he caused death in a careless ride on the previous hearing.

Carmel Pearson, persecution, said the judge was recorded on Danie’s head.

He sustained catastrophic head injuries and died 10 days later at the hospital.

The prosecutor said it was “a difficult merger to get out of,” but the defendant “did not stop at the sign of giving.”

Daniel’s wife Savanna read a statement in court, describing her husband as an “adrenaline drug addict”, who rode a bicycle every day to IS.

She said they got married a year before he died, and Adrian Daniel was totally dedicated to her and her daughter from the previous relationship.

Savanna Daniel said to the judge: “It was like hell and a nightmare from which I don’t wake up.

“There was no reason for Adrian to kill that way.”

She said that if drugs, drinks or excessive speed were included, it could make it more understandable, but she added, “This was a too simple collision to take away life.”

She said she knew that Akins had a young family and did not want to grow up without a father.

She added, “We don’t need life anymore to be destroyed from this.”

But she criticized him that he did not declare her guilty at an earlier stage.

Tim Pole, defending, said to the judge, “I want to apologize publicly on his behalf.

“The fact that he caused Daniel’s death continues to dominate his thoughts and that is the burden he will carry for the rest of his life.”

Paul said his client understood the “frustration and anger” that Savanna Daniels expressed about the time he needed to confess to guilt, and said that her words “had a deep influence on him”.

The lawyer said that the collision had happened when Akins had difficulty in his personal life and that his marriage was now over, even though he continued to cooperate his three young children.

Pole said, “He is basically a decent, sincere and diligent individual.”

He said the player “retained the support of his employers”, but added that this may not continue with the current detention.

Closing Akins and disqualifying him for a 12 -month ride, Judge Menari said: “It is clear to me that you are someone who is very unlikely that he will bother the courts again.”

He said there was a strong personal mitigation, but he concluded: “Against this, it seems that the appropriate punishment can only be reached by direct custody.”

The judge said that he accepted Akins remorse true, but also said that his failure to admit his guilt at an earlier stage was extended “sickness and sadness” by Savanne Daniel.

Akins has played for Mansfield of 2022, and has previously been with clubs, including Huddersfield, Tranmere and Burton.

In a statement published to the West Yorksshire police, Mrs. Daniel said: “Three years of hell, three years of avoidance and adding further to my trauma have finally ended up with the Akins verdict today.

“He is never allowed to fully live the reality of Adrian’s absence because of the farce Akins has made a judicial system and the chances offered to him, they have finally been put to bed and this man no longer deserves further further time or concern.

“No longer holds power over me or my family and justice will never return Adrian.

“All of this could be resolved before and it is a further insult of injuries and makes it a derision of any repentance that Akins offers for its actions.”
