Leeds Rhinos’ 2025 star, Maika Sifu, has been ruled out for the entire Premier League season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Sifo suffered the injury during Leeds’ friendly pre-season match against Wigan Warriors on Sunday, and was knocked out in the first half of his team’s 22-4 win.

The Rhinos have signed the winger to a three-year deal from NRL side Parramatta Eels. The 31-year-old will now undergo surgery.

Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur said in a statement: “Our first thoughts are with Mika and we will rally around him and offer him and his family our support.

“Our medical team will make sure he gets the best possible treatment to return from injury as quickly as possible. Myka is a strong character and I am sure he will throw himself into the recovery phase to get back to his best.”

Sporting director Ian Blaise added: “This is a very tough blow for us as a club, but it is particularly devastating for Mika who has settled in well with our group.”

“We were all excited to see what he could do in the Premier League in 2025 but we will just have to wait for that now. In terms of our squad, we will need to fully review the situation and consider all our options.”

He added: “We have some outstanding young players who can now have the opportunity to seize their opportunity, and I will discuss all our options with the club, Brad and the coaching staff in the coming weeks before the start of the season.”
