Lauren Price is expecting to fight Claress Shields, but wants to win the undisputed World Cup against Mikael Mayer first.
Price, Unified WBO, WBC and IBF World Welterweight Champion, is currently weight removal from America’s Shields, who added his last fight to his last fight by winning the undisputed heavyweight title.
But the story was not surprised to see that Shields was calling. “The way I look, she was always in my head that I would box her one day,” said Price Sky Sports.
“She is a double Olympic gold medal. I am a golden Olympic medal. And in medium weight. With her acknowledgments, my confessions, I think it is the biggest struggle.
“I would love that struggle. I want to become undisputed first, and then obviously think about it.”
Both Shields and Price were Olympic gold medals in the same division, and the Welsh star believes they can fight in the future in the middle category.
“It’s not natural, it’s weight and I’ll never be difficult,” Price said.
“I always thought I would be a worldwide champion in multiple weights. Obviously, talks about the weight and what I was going to happen happened.
“When you drive you and you are motivated, you want to be involved in the biggest struggle.”
The price is convinced that it can not only fight Shields, but also that it can beat it.
“She’s a great fighter. I think it’s the best fight outside. It’s going to be a tough fight, but it’s a fight that I believe I can win too,” Price said.
“I think they get it at speed, if I’m honest. I’m just too fast. It’s fast. It’s very fast hands, but I’m faster.
“Before she said she would do me (Natasha) Jonas the same night,” Price added. “Then I hinted at Jonas and said she was impressed, this, that and more. And now she wants a fight. I must have done something right!”
But Price’s immediate job lies with another American, Mikael Mayer, who defended WBO WBO last month with a world title with her repeated victory over Sandy Ryan last month.
Price and Mayer want to fight for a combination of all four major world titles with 147 pounds, but arrangements for the competition site will be a key part of these negotiations.
“I would love to be in Wales,” Price said. “For myself, I see my fans base becomes bigger and bigger.
“They are exciting times, I would love to go home. It’s a massive struggle and an exciting struggle he’s in.
“I think the fight in the UK is selling better than in the United States. This is that conversations are happening, money to turn on.”
The price would be open to a contract with two blows, for the Box Mayer in the UK and the US to fight.
This could be a good enough competition to justify it twice.
The price is a highly qualified southern Pope with excellent movement and an evil fast counter-pump. But Mayer has grown into a division in a great weight. She is a fighter who is busy from the first bell to last with a huge exit. The American seems to have a style to put pressure on.
“Maybe we’ll have two or three, like (Amanda) Serrano and (Katie) Taylor. I think it’s a kind of struggle where there will be a big fight,” the story thought.
“I think even more there is more to show. If I am honest with Jonas’s fight, I thought I would get involved a little more, but that didn’t happen because it didn’t come to me. I just kicked her. While I have to fight, I can fight, if I have to box.
“There are cases where you have to be smart, you were, go to the hinterland, go to the front leg, fight, boxes no matter. I’m experienced, I am learning all the time and I hope we fight and it will be a great fight.”
