London – The British maker of the Jaguar and the Land Rover car stops the US shipments as it works to mitigate the impact of 25% of the vehicle import tax imposed on Trump administration.
Jaguar Land Rover Automotive, one of the greatest British car manufacturers, said on Saturday that the break will take place this month.
“The US is an important market for Luxury JLR brands,” the company said in the statement. “While working on solving new commercial conditions with business partners, we take some short-term actions, including breaks of consignments in April, as we develop our medium-term plans.”
The UK is expected to tend to new tariffs, which come at a time when British car manufacturers are struggling with the declining demand at home and the need for transition to electric vehicles.
“The industry is already facing multiple winds, and this announcement comes at the worst possible moment,” Mike Hawes, the executive director of the United States of manufacturers and merchants in the UK. “SMMT is in constant contact with the government and will request trade discussions to accelerate as we need to provide a path that supports jobs and economic growth on both sides of the Atlantic.”
The number of cars in the UK fell 13.9% on 779,584 vehicles last year, states SMMT. More than 77% of these vehicles were intended for the export market.
UK Carmakers have already taken steps to reduce the immediate impact of tariffs by building inventory in the US before the increase came into force.
SMMT figures show that exports in the United States jumped 38.5% of a year earlier in December, 12.4% in January and 34.6% in February.
British car manufacturers delivered 8.3 billion pounds (10.7 billion) for USA in the USA in 12 months to September, making cars some greatest goods exports to the United States, state government statistics.
But cars make a relatively small part of the entire trade between Britain and the United States, which is very weighted according to services.
Britain exported 179.4 billion pounds ($ 231.2 billion) of goods and services in the year to September to September, and services account for 68.2% and digits.
