Las Vegas – When you comment on Nascar Approaching procedure over the last week, almost every driver added a warning: not working Katherine Legga.
They said that out of respect for Legga’s long career and race. Those who are advocating for a change after Legga’s debut with two Kupa Cups in Phoenix advocated a week ago, out of respect for their pursuit of the Nasscar Cup series champions.
NASCAR has approved a 44-year-old legga for running road courses and ovals one mile or shorter based on her Indycar The experience, which includes the four Indy 500 and seven races. They also considered her extensive sports car experience and the recent experience of Dayton Arca.
Twice turned to Phoenix, including once Daniel Suarezwhich ruined his day.
The incident brought NASCAR -O’s Cup approval procedure at the center of attention.
“I believe I’m one of the best racing drivers in the world’s stocks,” Suarez said on Saturday. “And if I want to start Formula 1 tomorrow or Formula 2, I can’t. I’m not qualified for it.
“And I shouldn’t. … I believe the process of allowing someone to run in the Cup series should be a little harder than the driver who tries, respect the fans and respect drivers and teams running full time because we work very hard to get into stupid accidents like the one from last week.”
Suarez was entitled to anger, said the triple champion in the Cup Joey Logano.
“I would consider Phoenix a rather fast oval. Know that it’s just a mile, but you wear good speed there and it’s a lot of potential to get into problems,” Logano said. “And last week we saw two caution that unfortunately ruined Suarez’s day, not his fault. If I were me, I would have been very upset. Very upset.
“What are you doing?”
That’s a question. Legee called Suarez this week and Suarez thinks Nascar is guilty of drivers coming from other disciplines to a bad position on ovals with limited practice time.
“She became a failure,” Suarez said. “It doesn’t matter if you are a great driver or a bad driver. If you are thrown into one of the most difficult series in the world to be competitive, it’s just not fair.
“That’s how I saw it. I was more disappointed in Nascar from her. And I mentioned that and I hope she gets another opportunity. … with her is nothing bad, just a process. The process must be so much better.”
Suarez considers the approval for road courses completely different from ovals. This was proved by his teammate Shane Van Gisbergenwho won his debut in his first Nascar race of any kind in 2023, as the triple Supercars champion captured a victory at the Chicago Street race.
In order to get a race approval, Van Gisbergen said he had to do a test day on the Charlotte Road track with Nascar Brett Bodine who watched him. The bodies were used for the procedure of the approval procedure of NASCAR, but now he did Chad Little. Both are former drivers, as well as the higher vice -president of the competition Elton Sawyer, who contributes to decisions.
Kyle Busch advocating that current drivers are part of the procedure.
“Since I owned (previously) in a truck series and watching some young drivers get opportunities on different songs than my drivers trying to take advantage of their opportunities on some of the same traces rejected – I was very confused, and I was probably even more confused now that everything works,” Busch said.
“I think it’s broken. There’s a lot of work to be done to improve. I also feel like” a suit and relationship “make decisions. … I feel like to be (drivers carrying) fire fires involved in some of these decisions -made processes on those who need to be approved or approved for various activities.
Nascar would not approve of Mike Wallace for Dayton 500 (on Dayton International Speedway with two and a half kilometers), because in his time he did not run despite being a solid runner on the board. They made my way Casey Mearswho also did not race in a few years, for songs of miles and a half and shorter. And Mears will return to the races for the Kupa later this month in Martinsville.
As for Dayton, Nascar was approved by the four -time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves For 500, and he had a rough weekend.
“He’s a rock star and I believe he couldn’t get better prepared for Dayton 500,” Suarez said. “He had a test. He had a time of simulator. He had several months of preparation. Arca race, duels.
“And if you ask me, once he was at the Dayton 500, he still had a lot to learn, … if you ask me, ‘Hey, do you think Helio was 100 percent ready? “I don’t think so, even though he is a world -class driver.”
The difference in equipment cannot also be neglected. Castroneves was driving for Trackhouse, one of the best teams in NASCAR. Legga was driving for a part -time fast live race.
“I feel bad about Katherine because I said Kyle Larson At a driver’s meeting, “How impressive is it? She is just a second in that (under -funded) car and never runs in this type of series” ” Denny Hamlin said.
“It’s really, really, really impressive. … but the eyes opens and Nascar’s eyes are to open -we’re not strict about who will run cars. It should be the most elite series and you shouldn’t go in whenever you want.”
