Ferrari boss Frederic Vassur believes his team “done a good job”, despite Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc judged their frustration during Miami Grand Prix.
Hamilton asked the teammate Leclerca during the middle of the race while trying to capture Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli on the sixth but was not missed immediately.
He became more frustrated before Leclerc set aside after a few rounds, but could not retreat on his middle tires.
The sevenfold world champion then allowed Leclerca and sarcastically asked if he should also release Williams from Carlos Sainz, with Ferrari a couple ended up on seventh and eighth.
Hamilton revealed that he told the director of the team Ferrari Vasseur not to be so sensitive when he was talking to him after the race and said that he would not apologize for being a “fighter”.
Vassur said Sky Sports F1: “I can understand the frustration of guys in cars, but in the end it was well performed because Lewis was behind Charles, with a softer junction, we let it in our internal rules on the team, we replaced ourselves in the end.
“We gave Lewis the opportunity to go before Charles because it was impossible to cross between them if we didn’t let them go and that was an opportunity for Lewis to catch Antonelli. I think we did a good job.”
Among the Feisty radio exchanges, Hamilton raised the Chinese Grand Prix, when he moved to Leclerc, and at one point said “Tea break while you’re on it, come on!”
“I had a debate with Lewis and I can understand the frustration perfectly. They are champions, they want to win races,” Vassur said.
“We ask them to get the pupa of your teammate. It’s not easy, it’s never easy. We took responsibility to do so because it’s a team policy.
“We are racing for Ferrari first. Honestly, I think we did a good job as a team. Again, we can claim that it would be better to do half a circle sooner or half a circle later.
“But when you are in the wall of the pit, you have to understand if the car is behind faster because of the DRS or not. It’s not an easy call. It’s always much easier to do two hours later.
“We asked them to do so. They did it. Now frustration when you are in the car, I can understand it perfectly. We had a discussion and it was much more relaxed.”
Vassur: Hamilton can trust me
Hamilton and Vassur have been known since the mid-2000s in the GP2, which was the Motorsport Championship below F1.
Vassur, who, in his third season as the director of the Ferrari team, reiterated that “no problem” with a dispute on Sunday’s team or the reaction of his drivers.
“He (Hamilton) can trust me, I can trust him. He’s the same is Charles,” he said.
“When I have to make a decision, I make a decision for Ferrari with the element you have (to do it) live.
“It’s not that you have 30 minutes to look at the information. You have to decide what the fastest record is if it comes from DRS or not.
“Maybe a little slow, but we needed one round or one round and a half to make a decision. You can always, when you lag, feel that you have to be replaced in the next corner.
“And when you are in front, you say,” Please, see if it’s not a Drs effect. “I think it was a reverse situation 10 laps later.”
Where are Ferrari in the order?
Vassur wanted to emphasize that the “bigger story” was Ferrari’s lack of tempo because they ended up almost one minute behind the winner of the Oscar Piastra race.
McLaren put 152 points in front of the Italian team after only six events in front of the Italian team.
Leclerc, in the seventh, was 20 seconds behind George Russella in third place, but Vassur believes Ferrari had the pace of Mercedes and Red Bull’s racing equipment and has to work on their performance in qualifying with new tires.
“The tempo in Miami is difficult when you stuck in the package. The tempo probably coincided with the Red Bull and Mercedes,” he said.
“I think McLaren was on the second planet. We never said we could fight McLaren. But with a better position, we thought we could fight Max (Verstappen) and Mercedes.”
