ESPN host Stephen A. Smith He and others who voted for Kamala Harris in the November election feel like “fools,” he admitted during an appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher on Friday.
Smith made the announcement when discussing comparisons between the Harris campaign and… Barack Obama campaign in 2008. The sports critic argued that the fact that Harris was not nominated through a legitimate primary, and the fact that she performed so poorly during her short run in the 2020 Democratic primary, made her undesirable with voters.
Harris withdrew from the 2020 primary in 2019, even before he reached the Iowa caucus. She never received a single primary vote before being nominated in 2024.

“Kamala Harris, who didn’t resonate during the 2020 primaries, couldn’t even make it to Iowa, and all of a sudden she’s the Democratic nominee, and then she steps up to the convention in Chicago and everyone says, ‘She’s a rock star!’ So it’s like, ‘How did that happen?’ That?” Smith said.
“Yes I voted for her, a lot of people voted for her, but in the end, we ended up feeling like fools, because we supported her, we fell in love with Okidoki as they say. If you had a primary she probably wouldn’t have been the Democratic Party nominee.”
Smith was a vocal internal critic of the Democratic Party during and after the 2020 election.
During an appearance on Maher’s show on Friday, he chided liberals for choosing not to campaign on issues that concerned the American people most, while acknowledging that Trump did, and was the candidate closest to the middle of the political spectrum.

“Here’s the deal: The guy has been impeached twice, convicted on 34 felony counts, and the American people still say, ‘He’s closer to normal than what we see on the left,'” Smith said.

“I think that in light of these results, we have to look at these elections as a referendum on the Democratic Party. “It’s a strong lean toward the progressive left where we’re talking about transgender issues and culture wars and identity politics and all that stuff. We’re tired of all that. And it makes perfect sense to me, and so am I.” Good at that, although I didn’t vote for him [Trump]. “I’m not surprised and I just feel doom and gloom and the world is coming to an end because the person I voted for didn’t win,” Smith said.
