When businessman Elon Musk issued the headlines with his loud comments that support the H-1B visa program, the discussion that followed on the repercussions of his position on immigration focused.

But this debate has blocked the reason that America has such a program in the first place: its local students learn poorly in mathematics.

According to federal law, the H-1B program gives visas to foreigners coming to perform services “in a specialized profession.” The specialized occupation is defined as “theoretical and practical application of a group of very specialized knowledge”, as well as higher education requirements.

The “United States Report Card”, which students leaving reading, are barely skating in mathematics: “The news is not good”

The program is hidden annually at 65,000 regular H-1B visas, with 20,000 others for those foreigners who obtained advanced certificates from American universities.

Given the program’s strong support for the program, it is not surprising that a federal report states that in 2023, “computer -related professions were the largest major professional field, which represents 65 % of all beneficiaries. [of the program]”By comparison, I was given less than 1 % of H-1B visas for foreigners in social sciences.

While many H-1B discussion coverage focuses on the angle of foreign foreign worker, the real issue related to H-1BS is that the United States fails to produce home workers with the required mathematics skills required by Musk’s Spacex and other super technology companies.

In 2024, 72 % of the eighth graders who receive the national evaluation of the progressive educational mathematics exam at the perfect level-with a full increase of 6 % over 66 % of the eighth graders who failed to achieve efficiency in 2019.

Why do American students do this badly in mathematics? The answer lies in the ineffective mathematics instructions they receive.

In early 2010, most states adopted the standards of joint national education, which were described as a treatment for American mathematics problems. Unfortunately, Commun Core turned into bad medicine.

Common Core has confused many students by emphasizing indirect ways to reach the correct answer instead of just learning direct sporting processes.

For example, in double numbers, children are often required to draw pictures instead of just saving multiplication tables.

Michael Maleion, a professional sports teacher in California, said that his students were taught by their general schools to draw and shade various fields of rectangles when hitting fractures, instead of hitting the rugs and hitting the denominations to obtain the correct answer. The demand for students to learn mathematics in this way is ineffective and ineffective.

Why do American students do this badly in mathematics? The answer lies in the ineffective mathematics instructions they receive.

“We will draw a picture every time we find 10 problems related to fracture reproduction, when you can do it in your head?” Malione asks. “That’s crazy.”

Malione believes that students are “completely lost and do not get step -by -step guidelines.”

Looking at the Malione experience, it is not surprising that a study funded by the Common Core had significant negative effects on mathematics achievement for eighth grade students.

Mathematics professors in the college were shocked by bad mathematics skills for students.

One of the university mathematics coaches in the Silicon Valley has regretted that the lack of algebra is “the first and chronic”. He said: “We do not produce the types of students and graduates that Silicon Valley needs.”

Suji Sorensen, a great engineer in the famous flying payment laboratory that also studies students in mathematics, urged a return to the practices of traditional mathematics, which includes mastering the basic skills of addition, subtraction, beatings and division by “preserving mathematics facts and procedures” so that students can “procedure The accounts quickly and bothering.

Moreover, mathematics themes should be chain, “where new concepts are built on the concepts that have been previously learned in an organized hierarchical way.”

Finally, Sorensen recommends that mathematics such as long division “must be taught and practiced explicitly to mastery”, focusing on accuracy.

America has approximately 50 million K-12 students. If schools use installed sports educational methods instead of failed progressive technologies, there will be less need for H-1B visas because there will be more than enough American young people needed by companies. Technology mourners should tend to install Trump to schools to do so. It is time to make mathematics great again.
