Los Angeles Dodgers The first basic man Freddie Freeman scratched from the starting line -up with the discomfort of the left rib before opening the season against Chicago Cubs Tuesday night in the Tokyo dome.
Freeman was originally in line, hit the third and played the first base. The eight-time All-Star hit .282 with 22 domestic and 89 RBI last season.
Dodgers shifted the line without Freeman, moved Kike Hernandez to the first base and putting Michael Confort in the left field.
Dodgers and Cubs play a series with two games in Japan to open the season. Short stop Mookie Betts is also due to illness.
