Denny Hamlin needs 4 wins to reach 60. Can they get them 2025?

<!–>

Darlington, SC – Less than 10 days ago, it could be wondered if Denny Hamlin would ever succeed up to his goal of 60 Series NASCAR CUP wins.

Now the question could be whether Hamlin could reach 60 wins before the 2025 playoffs began at all.

When asked after his victory on Sunday night at Darlington Raceway, Hamlin said:

“Truth is really 61,” Hamlin said after 56. It’s a classic Hamlin, moving the goalkeepers a little to make him persecute the goal.

Sixty would equate him for ten times of all time in victories with a fox analytist Kevin Harvick; 61 would give him only possession of 10th place. But after winning Martinsville and Darlinthon, how much would Joe Gibbs racing a veteran Joe Gibbs this year?

This weekend, the series is moving to the Bristol Motor Speedway. A year ago, Hamlin went into the victory there, a race that was part of his winning three of the first 11 races in the 2024 season before he went to Besumno drought for the rest of the year.

Hamlin won two of his historic best songs, because now he has five in Martinsville and five in Darlington. In the next month, the series goes to Bristol and Kansas, where he has four career victories. There are seven in Pono, and there are five in Richmond.

“I want to get it as soon as possible, because you never know when you are no longer racing,” Hamlin said, which is expected to race for at least a few years. “These victories at the beginning of the season are certainly useful to achieve pressure for the playoffs and certainly do me good that I continue with these victories.”

Playoff points are points that drivers earn throughout the year to win the race, closely victory and final points in the regular part of the season that can potentially help them progress in the playoffs. The more the playoffs are, the more likely it will have that Hamlin will have in the last round of the championship and possibly capture that first elusive championship.

44-year-old driver Joe Gibbs Racing earned his last two victories to Polar opposite fashion. He dominated the race in Martinsville. But in Darlington, he needed caution in the late race and a quick stop to bring him in the lead to the extension in Darlington.

Those breaks he received in Darlington on Sunday that he did not get during 31 races without a win.

But more importantly, Hamlin now has two victories with the new crew chief Chris Gayle. And Gayle who replaced Chris Gabehart, the crew chief Hamlin thought he would have had until the end of his career. Instead, Gabehart took over the role of team director after last season.

Gayle was a crew chief for Ty Gibbs. He said he didn’t care that Hamlin would get 60 wins. It was 55.

“I’m coming to charging big shoes for Gabehart,” Gayle said. “He was with Denny for a long time. I’m the only change. I’m not naive enough to know it. I had to win and win early.

“Last week (in Martinsville) he was great. We managed to win with a different setup, with something we worked on, we came and had a car speed, to get it out of the way. This one, I was surprised. Obviously we had a real scenario. Take them.”

Motorsports refers to capturing and taking advantage of a break.

“You’re taking all those you can steal somehow, then if you get all those who are the strongest car, you will be in good shape,” Gayle said.

And Hamlin is in good shape. He adds trophies, and also soybean for fans, playing the role of the fifth in sports. Boos prevailed on him during the introduction of the driver and as he got out of the car to celebrate the victory.

“I love fans,” Hamlin said. “They don’t really like me so much. Still, I think it’s just my personality. I understand it. I bring it to myself most of the times. But I love it. I love the reaction I leave people.”

And he also likes to take a step closer to 60. Or 61.

“He still feels good from my point of view that I can, at the age of 44, go out here and win the races backwards, be in training a week, weekly and still be at the top of my game,” Hamlin said. “Nothing gave up.”
