Your guide to what the US 2024 elections are for Washington and the world
The call between the two leaders came a day after Trump talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin under the storms of the US president to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“President Trump has also discussed electrical supplies and nuclear power plants of Ukraine,” said State Secretary Mark Rubio and national security advisor, Mike Valtz.
“He said that the United States could be very useful in managing these plants with its electricity and expertise,” the resume added, and the US property offers “better protection” for Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
It was unclear which of Ukraine’s energy assets Trump suggested that the US should control. In recent days, Trump and his team have repeatedly noted the importance of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.
Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest in Europe, is located in the Russian territory in eastern Ukraine. There are also three other facilities conducted in Kiev.
The call comes when Trump’s peacekeeping ambitions showed signs of failure, after the US president repeatedly reject himself during the White House campaign as capable of stopping conflicts in Ukraine and gas.
Earlier this week, a transaction with ceasefire, registered US between Israel and Hamas collapsed, while Trump did not convince Putin to agree to the full ceasefire in Ukraine.
During the call on Tuesday, Zelensky agreed to support the US proposal to stop strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.
The agreement comes a day after the Russian president agreed to a 30-day pause on attacks on Ukrainian energy assets. However, Moscow continued to beat on energy purposes in the country on Wednesday morning.
In a report of “truth” after a call on Wednesday, Trump called his discussion with Zelensky “very good”, adding that peace talks are “very on the way”.
The White House later stated that the energy infrastructure agreement became a prelude to further talks in Saudi Arabia “in the coming days” to expand the ceasefire to the Black Sea.
It adds that this was the step “on the way to the complete ceasefire”.
Zelensky described his call with Trump “a very significant and sincere conversation”.
He added that one of the first steps on the conclusion of the war could dwell on energy strikes – to which Putin agreed – but also “another civil infrastructure”.
The White House said Zelensky also demanded that the US put US patriot missile systems, adding that Trump agreed to work with him to find “what was available, especially in Europe.”
