Germany’s Merz falls short of majority in vote for chancellor

The conservative leader in Germany unexpectedly did not meet the numbers needed to form many to become superintendents in the parliament.

The Friedrich Merz needed 316 votes in a 630 -seat Bundestag, but in two and a half months after winning the German federal elections, the Christian Democratic leader secured 310 with a big blow to the Christian Democratic leader.

The union with the central left has enough seats in Congress, but 18 MPs are expected to oppose him. In the first vote, MERZ’s failure appears to be unprecedented in modern German history.

Bundestag now has 14 days to choose Merz or other candidates as spectacular.

According to the German Constitution, there is no limit to how many votes can be held, but ultimately, if you never reach the majority, you can be elected without one candidate.

Mertz’s defeat is considered to be humiliated by the Social Democratic Party SPD members who signed a coalition contract with the Conservative Party on Monday by political commentators.

Not everyone in the SPD is satisfied with the transaction, but the historical characteristics of Merz’s failure will be difficult for him to continue. Since 1949, the candidate has not failed in this way.

The embarrassment of the voting on Tuesday weakens MERZ’s hope that it will be an antidote for the weakness and division of the last government at the end of last year.

Germany’s top priority alternative, which took second place in the February elections, was seized 20.8%by his failure. Co -leader Alice Weidel said that this ballot is “small union [conservatives] And SPD rejected by voters.

The transfer of the government in Germany is carefully choreographed. The day before the voting on Monday, Olaf School was a traditional grand tattoo by a military orchestra.

The 69-year-old MERZ won the vote and visited President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to meet the long-standing ambition to become a German prime minister.

His rival and former Prime Minister Angela Merkel came to Bondestag to watch the voting.

The immediate decision of MERZ is now to decide whether to pursue a second vote with the united partner and take the risk of failing again.
