A woman died in Australia and forced thousands to flee their homes after heavy rains caused floods in northern Queensland.

The authorities warn that flood water may rise to the second level in the position they described as dangerous and life -threatening.

More than 700 mm (26 inches) of rain has fallen on parts of northern Queensland during the past 24 hours, and there is concern that “standard precipitation” will continue on Monday, according to the President of Queensland David Crysevolle.

Meteorologists say this may be the worst flood in the region for more than 60 years.

Crisafulli said the conditions are not similar to anything in northern Queensland “for a long time.”

“It is not only the severity, but also its longevity,” Australian broadcaster ABC told Australian.

Thousands of people living in Townsville were asked to leave their homes by mid Sunday, while the authorities brought 100,000 sandbags to prevent flood water.

Parts of the road were cut between Townsville and the CAIRNS, which hindered the efforts to obtain rescue teams and sand bags to the area.
