Body of fourth missing US soldier found in Lithuania

A week after missing in Lithuania, the fourth American soldier was found.

The soldiers were members of four teams who were training in large armored vehicles when they lost near Pabrade.

Vehicle -M88A2 Hercules -and the other three soldiers were found in peat swamps on Monday.

The search efforts have been a difficult mission to draw vehicles from the swamps, and are related to hundreds of US and navy rescue workers, Lithuania, Polish and Estonian troops.

“Last week was fatal. Today, our hearts have the weight of unbearable pain. The world is darker without them,” said Maj Gen Christopher Norrie in a statement published by the US Army Europe and Africa.

LT Gen Charles Costanza described the incident as “tragic thinking,” and added that it is humble for other commands, the amazing recovery teams of the country and the continent.

The US military is investigating what happened.

The statement did not specify the location of the final soldier’s body. The team was working near Belarus City and near the border.

One of the largest military vehicles used by the US military, the M88A2 Hercules is designed to recover damaged tanks and other vehicles on the battlefield.
