Romania court upholds ban on far-right populist running for president

Romania’s top priority, Calin Georgescu, lost his appeal to the ruling that prohibits participation in the presidential election in May.

The Constitutional Court made a final ruling after two hours of deliberation on Tuesday afternoon.

Many people gathered outside the court of Bukkurestee shouted, “Tristers” and “We can’t go anywhere.”

The central elections rejected George Sku’s candidate for the presidential election in May.

Georgescu won the first round of the presidential vote last year, but said that the information was involved in setting up almost 800 Tiktok accounts that Russia supported.

On Sunday, the Elections said George Sku’s candidate did not meet the legitimacy conditions because he violated the obligation to defend democracy.
