Lewis Hamilton claimed an amazing pillar for Saturday’s Sprint in Chinese Grand Prix only in his second weekend of the Ferrari race.
Rejecting himself in a sensational style from a heavy debut with a team in Melbourne last weekend, when he finished 10th. Hamilton was in a mix on the front through the Sprint Qualification at the place where he won the Grand Prix record six times.
McLaren was still a favorite to run the net, but Hamilton had other ideas, because not only did the sevenfold champion surpass the new teammate Charles Leclerca for the first time -he had more Tempo than all his main rivals to ask for the first position in Motportsport’s iconic red place in just another attempt.
McLaren could finish third with Oscar Piastra and sixth, after a mistake, with a leader of an early title Land Norris.
Max Verstappen will divide the sprint front row with an old rival Hamilton after another strong display in his Red Bull, with a Leclerc fourth after lied to 0.2s slower than faster Ferrari.
When the news conveyed by racing engineer Riccard Adami that he qualified for a pole, the apparently surprised Hamilton replied, “Really? Hahaha! Mega Job. Woo!”
He then added after getting out of the car: “I didn’t expect that result, but so, so happy and so proud.
“Clearly, the last race was a disaster for us, but we knew there were more tempo in the car.
“I’m a little shocked. I can’t believe we got a pillar in Sprint!”
But while Verstappen was the second, problematic start to Liam Lawson at the Red Bull senior team worse because he is the most place of all in SQ1.
The New Zealander was just above the cut line on the eve of the final run, but a expensive mistake in the ninth color saw him running wide and condemned him at the beginning of the sprint.
George Russell was the fifth in the main Mercedes and will share the third row with Norris for Saturday’s morning starting sprint sprint. Kimi Antonelli was the seventh in the second silver arrow in a much improved one round that was shown from Italian compared to his debut in Melbourne, where he gave up in Q1 before setting a fine recovery facility to finish the fourth in the race.
