Lawyers say about 20 legal claims about historical abuse at Celtic Boys Club have been settled for a seven -digit sum.
About 30 survivors who allegedly suffered sexual abuse as they played for the Boys Club in the 70’s, the 80s and 90s, launched a legal lawsuit under the new Scottish legislation.
Thompson Solicitors said that 70 percent of these cases were now resolved and that further settlement is expected in the “coming weeks”.
Celtic – who said earlier that they were not responsible because Boys Club was a separate entity – he indicated last year that they wanted to settle cases.
Numerous older figures in Boys Club, which is not formally related to Celtics, have been convicted in recent years for sexual offenses against teenagers who have stretched for decades. Celtic also said that “they are appalled by any form of historical abuse.”
‘Justice was finally reached’
In a statement, Thompson Solicitors said they “fought on behalf of their clients for almost a decade” and believe that “justice was finally achieved.”
Laura Connor of Thompson’s lawyers said: “Our clients believed us to fight for them in these difficult cases and ensured that their voices were heard.
“Defander was far more complex and longer -lasting this litigation, while our clients acted with a determined dignity in the whole.
“They have finally achieved success and can take this fee as a confirmation that the Celtic Boys Club is truly unbreakable with the Celtic football club.”
