The government said only one person survived a plane crash in southern Sudan, killing 20 oil workers on board.

Petroleum Minister Pot Kang Chul said that the plane, which was heading to the capital, Juba, was crashed three minutes after the seizure of oil fields in Al -Wahda state on Wednesday morning.

Among the victims are five foreign citizens: two Chinese, one Indian, and two Ugandan crew members. The 15 other victims were all southern Sudanese.

The cause of the accident was not determined, but the authorities said they were investigating.

“Our ideas and condolences come out to families and loved ones from those on board during this very difficult time,” said Chul.

Oil workers, who were all men, worked at the Great Principal Company (GPOC) and the plane was operated by Air Services Aviation.

GPOC is a joint project that includes state -owned oil companies from India, China, Malaysia and South Sudan.

It was supposed to be the task of exploring routine.

Airline infrastructure in southern Sudan is not well developed and the country has a weak safety record.

Air accidents are common, and they are often blamed on the plane or weather conditions.

In 2021, five people were killed after a fuel cargo plane crashed into the United Nations World Foods Program (WFP) near Juba.
